William Wesley “Wes” Carner, age 69, of Beach Park, took his final checkered flag on October 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 3, 1955, in Waukegan, IL, the son of William Eugene Carner and Mary Louise (Buttner) Carner.
He graduated from Warren Township High School with the Class of 1974. Wes found joy in serving with the Air Force ROTC, wrestling, and playing several reed instruments in the school band, saxophone being his favorite.
Wes began his career working at Shorty’s Automotive, Denny’s Amoco, and Jackson Auto Sales, eventually becoming the proud owner of Service Amoco in Waukegan, IL. For nearly 21 years, he ran a business and grew a community of loyal employees and customers. With a passion to serve and help others, he mentored and influenced the lives of many, who became a part of his family.
On July 6, 1979, Wes met the love of his life, Marjorie Lou Workman, at Bertrand’s Bowling Alley. They married on November 28, 1980, and together raised twins, Wesley and Jennifer, who he also delivered at home!
Throughout his life, Wes enjoyed racing anything with wheels. From his teenage days racing at Waukegan Speedway to supporting Tim Cox Racing across the country. Together, they chased victories in the USAC Sprint Car Series and championships in the HOSS Winged Pavement Sprint Series. As a car owner and crew chief, he raced Super Mini Cup Cars and Badger Midgets with his family throughout the Midwest, especially cherishing weekends at Angel Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI.
Wes was a resident of Beach Park for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, Wesley (Karin) Carner, Jennifer (Patrick) Kronenberger; grandchildren, Wyatt, Trever, and Cody Kronenberger, Andra and William “Will” Carner; siblings, Elizabeth (Kevin) Wibright, Donna Carner, Joyce (Ron) Campbell, William “Bill” Carner, and Stephen Krueger; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends—those he loved deeply and considered family. You know who you are.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Louise Carner; in-laws, Paul and Marjorie Workman; and grandson Gusty Kronenberger.
Wes lived life in the fast lane but always made time for those he loved. His grandkids were his pride and joy! He tried to be at every BMX race, orchestra concert, and baseball game. His legacy of kindness, grit, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice in honor of Wes.
