Thomas Layman Ash Sr, 87, of Beach Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully March 17, 2022 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Thomas was born July 1, 1934 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Grover Roscoe and Jennie Pauline Ash. He married the love of his life, Margie Prewitt in Harlan, Kentucky and moved to Illinois to begin and raise their family. He was a member of Trinity Christian Center in Zion, Illinois. There he was a Deacon in the church, involved in the Men’s Ministry and part of the security team. He gave service to construction projects for the church and congregation. He started his career in the Navy where he achieved the rank of Boiler Technician Master Chief before retiring. He then developed a second career at Abbott Laboratories where he was an Engineering Foreman before retiring to enjoy life. During his retirement Tom didn’t slow down. He delivered Meals on Wheels to shut ins weekly. He alongside his wife supported “adopted” a young toddler in Bogota until she graduated high school and then had the opportunity to go to Bogota and meet her and do volunteer work there at the orphanage. He delivered his wife’s treats to first responders in the area with her. Everywhere they went they touched someone’s life, knew someone, or offered kind words or help. He was always ready to help in whatever way he could. He was a very generous man. His love and dedication to his family was amazing and undeniable. He was greatly admired, loved, and will deeply be missed. The word to describe Tom is “A Rock”. He is survived by his children, Thomas L. (Ketty) Ash, Donna (Terry) Kruse and Stephanie (Charlie) Smith; grandchildren, Katrina Kruse, Jared Ash, Natalie Kruse, Kristin Ash, Joshua Ash, Jessica Kruse, Seth Ellis, Evan Ellis, and D.J. Spiller, Danielle Smith; great-grandchildren, Alahna Lundberg, Madison Ash, Scout Ash and Enrique Rivera; silbling Becky Edlin. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Margie Ash; his parents Grover Roscoe Ash Sr., Jennie Pauline Ash; his brothers Grover Roscoe Ash Jr and James Grover Ash. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m., at Trinity Christian Center,2600 Lewis Ave, Zion, IL 60099. Funeral Service will follow at 5:30 p.m. interment will be private at Valley Creek Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, KY.
