Steven Robert Stitz

July 28, 1971 — June 1, 2025

Steven Robert (Robbie) Stitz, age 53, of Antioch, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025.

Born in Van Nuys, California, Steve was known for his sharp mind, quiet strength, and deep passion for technology. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1992 to 1999. During his time in the Navy, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal (1st award), Southeast Asia Service Medal (1st award), Navy Expeditionary Medal (1st award), and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (1st award)—amongst many more—a reflection of his honor, dedication, and service to his country.

During his service, Steve developed a deep love for his ship, the USS Antietam (CG-54), where he took pride not only in his duties but also in his special role as the private chef for the ship’s captain. This unique position allowed him to share his passion for cooking while serving his country, building camaraderie and lasting memories with his fellow sailors.

After his military service, Steve built a remarkable career in information technology, devoting over 20 years to Blue Cross Blue Shield. There, he was highly respected not only for his technical expertise, but also for his professionalism, integrity, and work ethic. Over the course of his career, Steve received numerous awards in recognition of his hard work, innovation, and dedication to excellence.

A lifelong enthusiast of computers, gaming, and collecting, Steve found joy in staying on the cutting edge of technology. He also had a deep love for music and was known for hosting legendary Rock Band parties, where friends and family would gather to play, sing, and laugh together late into the night. These moments reflected his vibrant spirit and his love of bringing people together.

Above all, Steve was a devoted father to his daughter, Megin (Alexander) Gay, and took immense pride in her accomplishments and happiness. He was also a loving grandfather to Sylis Gay, Jasper Gay, and Winry Gay, who brought him immeasurable joy.

Steve is survived by his loving parents, Robert and Jean Stitz; his siblings, Jeff Stitz, Connie Ryan (Stitz), and Suzanne Stitz Bernescut; many cherished nieces and nephews; and the mother of his daughter, Nickie Marques.

Steve will be remembered for his intelligence, loyalty, and the quiet, steady love he shared with those closest to him. His thoughtful presence and outgoing sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private service will be held to honor Steve’s memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization that reflects his commitment to service and support for fellow veterans.
