Sharon Leigh Murphy (Geier), 80, of Okeechobee, Florida, formerly from Beach Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025 in Kenosha, Wisconsin while surrounded by the love of her family. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, and dancing to an Elvis tune in the heavens above.
Sharon was born to Joseph and Dorothy Geier on May 26,1944 in Waukegan, Illinois and grew up in Gurnee, Illinois. She attended Warren Township High School and graduated with the Class of 1962. On November 29, 1962, Sharon married Douglas Murphy. They were married for 60 years and had 3 beautiful daughters: Sheila, Kim and Kelley.
Sharon was a woman of quiet strength, patience, and had a heart that was filled with love. She lived her life through kindness and grace and her quiet resilience touched everyone she knew. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she cherished deeply and unconditionally. She was the heart of our family and filled our lives with unconditional love, laughter, and wisdom—always ready with a warm hug, a listening ear, or a gentle word of encouragement.
She was an avid cross-stitcher and quilter where she poured love into every stitch and pattern. Her passion for reading was matched only by her love for Elvis Presley, whose music brought her joy and often filled every room of her home. A conversation with Sharon could include: her favorite Florida stories, her beautiful flowers she planted, all the fun shopping excursions, anything that had to do with racing…all with a big smile on her face while wearing her favorite lipstick.
She is survived by her sister, Lynn Geier; brother in law, Danny (Nancy) Murphy; her daughters, Sheila (Skip) Braim, Kimberly (John) Valek and Kelley Frechette; 5 Grandchildren, Michael Braim, Ryan (Kari) Braim, Cody (Ariana) Braim, Alexandria (Lexy) Frechette and Rex Valek; 7 Great Grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews, all who will carry her love and legacy in their hearts.
Sharon was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Ballard; husband, Douglas Murphy in 2021 and her great grandson, Aiden Braim in 2022.
We would like to offer a special and heartfelt thank you to Nadia, her hospice nurse, whose compassion, tenderness, and unwavering care brought great comfort to Mom in her final days. Nadia was more than a caregiver—she was a steady light during a difficult time, and we are forever grateful for the peace and dignity she helped bring to Mom’s journey home.
A visitation where family and friends are invited to gather to share memories in honor of her beautiful life will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed by a service at 7:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois, 60099.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Center for Dementia Research which is close to her heart.
Though she may be gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts. She’s now wrapped in a quilt of stars, reading a good book, with Elvis serenading her softly.
Sharon-Mom-Grammy-Grandma-Great Grandma… will be forever missed and always remembered!
