Ruth Glaspie

September 17, 1947 — July 26, 2025

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, Ruth Peacefully departed this life surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 17, 1947, to Percy and Ruby Sanders in Jackson, Mississippi.

She accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Andrew Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, Mississippi.

She relocated to Zion, Illinois where she lived with her aunt Bernice Barnes. She worked at her aunt’s restaurant, Bernice’s Coffee Shop, for many years.

She met the love of her life, Jessie “Earl” Glaspie and they were married and settled in Zion where they raised their 4 children. She worked at Anchor Hocking and later became head cook at Crown Manor Nursing Home. The residents and employees enjoyed her delicious food. While working she always devoted time and love to her family. Her children were the pride and joy of her life. She loved spending time with family and friends.

Continuing her spiritual journey she joined  Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Reverend Roosevelt Tart and continued membership under Pastor John A McBride. She was on the Nursing Board and used her culinary skills working in the Kitchen Ministry for many years which Ebenezer family enjoyed until her health started to fail. Ruth loved to cook and was good at it.

She is survived by her beloved children, Timmie Sanders of Zion, IL, Terrance Sanders of Terry, Mississippi, Jackie Lynn (Byron) Thompson of Zion, IL, Bronica (Donald) Chambliss of Zion, IL, One brother George (Lula) Sanders of Jackson, Mississippi, One sister-in-law, Gloria (Ed)Lewis- Long of Waukegan, IL, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and bonus grandchildren, 9 God Children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; especially her special friends whom she loved dearly.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl Glaspie, her parents, Percy and Ruby, her Mother and Father In-Law, James and Mary Glaspie, 3 sisters, 5 brothers, one sister in-law and brother in-laws.

Ruth was full of love and loved by everyone. She leaves behind a void that will be deeply felt by her family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3109 Gilead Ave Zion, IL 60099, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. and burial at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL to follow directly after.
