Rosa Granby Harrell, born January 28, 1936, in Edenton, NC, was a ray of light, capturing attention with her dynamic personality and striking presence. Her spirit was loving, powerful, and unyielding.
Rosa was known for her no-nonsense attitude, never afraid to speak her mind and passionately advocate for what she believed in.
Her legacy is deeply intertwined with the lessons she imparted to her grandchildren, teaching them to reach for the stars and believe in their potential. Her generous heart led her to give selflessly, supporting local charities and organizations, always eager to help those in need.
Her home was filled with joy and vitality as she danced, sang, and exercised every day, making life a celebration.
Rosa lived on her own terms, and we don't mourn her loss; instead, we celebrate the vibrant life she led.
Born to the late Charlie Clifton Granby Sr. and Katie (Lyons) Granby, Rosa was the eighth of fifteen children. She received her education in the Chowan County Public School system.
Rosa married her high school sweetheart, the late Joseph Harrell Jr., and they shared 60 beautiful years together until his passing on June 22, 2014.
Predeceased by her parents, husband, and eleven siblings—Margaret, Cora, Katie, Charlie "Bro," Dorothy, Janie, William "Buddy," John, Washington, Gloria, and Barbara—Rosa's memory is cherished by her children: Marvin (Nancy) L. Harrell, Barbara (Frank) A. Calep, Douglas E. Harrell, and Marlene Harrell. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: LaQuita, Quinntel, Marvin Jr., Jazmin, Darryl, Maya, and Aria, and her great-grandchild, Cali Ja and Marvin Harrell III. She is also survived by two sisters, Marjorie Tredwell of Jacksonville, NC, and Mary Hoggard (William "Duke") of Chesapeake, VA, one brother, James Granby (Saundra) of Tyner, NC, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the incredible impact she had on everyone she met.
