Roosevelt Harris Jr.

January 27, 1944 — July 4, 2026

Roosevelt Harris Jr. departed this earthly life on July 4, 2026 to join his heavenly family of angels who cherished and nurtured him for a lifetime with love and adoration.

Roosevelt "Tweet" Harris Jr was born to Roosevelt Harris Sr and Leona Bankhead Harris on January 27,1944 of Waukegan, Illinois.

Roosevelt was an outstanding student athlete throughout his school years at Waukegan IL High School (East Campus) excelling in the classroom and in sports as a standout athlete in football and basketball. His stellar athleticism earned the football team (1960 to 1963) a championship title.

It was during his time at Waukegan High School that he met the lovely Edith L McSween, who hailed from New York City, New York who captivated Roosevelt and became his wife. To this union four children were born Charmaine "Candy" Harris, Darnell Glen Harris, Roosevelt Harris III and Renee Lynn Harris. After his marriage to Edith, Roosevelt married Liilie Harris and to this union was a stepson, Michael Andrews and a son, Ryan Harris.

Roosevelt spent his professional career working as a barber at THE COMB and as a craftsman for the North Chicago Housing Authority as well as the Zion IL Township. Roosevelt also served in the Waukegan Public School District #60 within the Safety and Security Department welcoming staff and visitors at the Lincoln Center for Educational Services.

Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memory his children, his loving sister Brenda (Gerald) Clark and his grandchildren Robert Ware, Jordan Harris-Smith and Alaina Harris along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Roosevelt is preceded in death by his father Roosevelt Sr, mother Leona (Calvin) Jordan, aunts Fannie Bullocks and Nancy Hoy and uncle Jimmie Bankhead.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099.
