Phyllis J. Koskinen

Phyllis Janet Koskinen (Holzman), 88, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, passed away on August 2, 2026.

Phyllis was born on May 26, 1938, in Baraboo, WI. Phyllis graduated from Zion Benton High School in 1956 and received her master’s degree from Carthage College in 1982. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she served in many volunteer positions. She was a teacher in the Zion School District for 30 years.

She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and cheering on the Chicago sports teams with her friends and her husband, Jerry. Jerry and Phyllis were high school sweethearts and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. She also enjoyed spending time with her relatives and family.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Katherine Holzman; her husband, Gerald Koskinen Sr. (Jerry); her brother, Karl; her sister, Beverly; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy.

Phyllis is survived by her two sons, Gerald (Shelly) Koskinen Jr. and Jeff (Lori) Koskinen; and her grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) Koskinen, Amber Koskinen, Luke (Andrea) Koskinen, Sierra (Alex) Ferson, Jordan Koskinen, Corey Koskinen, Brett Koskinen; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis will always be remembered as a wonderful mom, grandma, great-grandma, and friend who impacted many lives of those who knew her.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 824 N. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan, IL 60087. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s.
