Mary Ellen Takala, 66, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, passed away on October 1, 2025, at her home.
She was born on October 13, 1958, in Zion, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Rochelle (née Smith) Davis. Mary graduated from Zion Benton Township High School and shortly after married Edward J. Takala on October 27, 1979, in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois.
Mary lived much of her life in Zion with her family; in 2001 she moved to the upper peninsula of Michigan and returned in 2008 to Wisconsin. She devoted her time to her children's activities when younger; once older, she returned to the insurance industry, where she recently retired from Risk Strategies.
She enjoyed antiquing and going to flea markets with Ed. She loved decorating her home and office for every holiday. During the summer she worked and had her own shaved ice business. Being a grandma to her seven grandchildren brought her immense joy.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Edward J. Takala; children, Valerie (Sean) Kappes, Nick (Kelsey), and James (Danielle) Takala; grandchildren, Henry, Lukas, Charles, Calvin, Patrick, Samantha, and Noah; mother, Rochelle Davis; siblings, LuAnn (Daniel) Bennett and Joseph (Jennifer) Davis; and brother-in-law, Gene Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Davis, and sister, Theresa Mitchell.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, Illinois. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
