Marvin W. Ehlers, 88, of Zion, died on Monday, March 16, 2009 at home.
Marvin was born February 12, 1912 in Ward, SD and was a lifelong resident of Zion. He attended Lakeside Community Church of Zion. For many years, he owned and operated both Ehlers Lanes and Z-B Lanes in Zion. He was also a member of Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667, the Zion-Benton American Legion Post #865 and he was an avid Cubs Fan.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, JoAnn; children, Sheri (Frank) Minneci, Joyce McKim, Randy Ehlers, Sandy (John) Bartousek, Beatrice (Dan) Colboth, Mary (Larry) Hickey, Vickie Kruse, Beverly (Ray) Torres, Debbie (Bob) Turman, Myra Petrovic and Connie (Jerry) Swenson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Melvin (the late Eleanor) Ehlers, Murldene Harnden, Marlin E. "Tony" (Carmen) Ehlers, Marceil (John) Walsh and Martin "Marty" (Mori) Ehlers; his sister-in-law, Sally Ehlers; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sperry; a brother, Murle Ehlers; and his parents, William and Inez Ehlers.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 19, 2009, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Pastor John Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago.
