Martin "Marty" Moore

June 26, 1954 — October 31, 2025

Martin Moore, age 71, passed away on October 31, 2025. Born on June 26, 1954, in Zion, Illinois, Martin—known to most as Marty—lived a life marked by incredible perseverance.

A graduate of Zion-Benton High School’s Class of 1972, Marty worked as a plumber with Local #93 before starting his own plumbing business. Marty was happiest outdoors and spent time trapping, fishing, and hunting whenever he could. On May 16, 1981, he married Sheila Wyse in Waukegan, Illinois. Over the years, Marty enjoyed countless trips and adventures with family and friends.

At the age of 33, Marty became a quadriplegic. In the face of life-altering challenges, he reinvented himself. With determination and hard work, he regained partial arm movement through physical therapy and learned to drive again using hand controls. Marty returned to school at the College of Lake County, where he earned three associate degrees and later held a 22-year career as a computer-assisted designer with Culligan International. One of his notable accomplishments was receiving a patent for one of his designs.

Thanks to his resilient spirit and the loyal care from his wife, Sheila, Marty always found ways to live a full life. He designed and built tools that made it possible for him to keep doing the things he loved from his wheelchair. With the support of family and friends, he continued to fish and hunt, finding creative ways to adapt. He took great joy in the garden he built from the ground up — a mix of flowers and vegetables grown from seed, complete with a stream, waterfall, and goldfish pond.

Those who knew Marty will remember his sense of humor and his endless list of projects and ideas that kept his creative mind busy.

Marty is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila; his daughter, Angela (Moore) Shaw, her husband, Douglas Shaw; grandsons, Caleb Shaw and Nathan Shaw; brothers, Robert Moore, Michael (Jo Anne) Moore, Thomas (the late Kathleen) Moore, James (Wendy) Moore, as well as many nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws Maureen (Robert) Schweder, Kathryn Weinberger; and brother-in-law, Joseph Wyse.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Barbara Moore, and his sister Anita.

Marty trusted Jesus with his life, and we rejoice in the assurance that he is now in heaven, embraced by his Savior and restored in a new body.
