Mark (Marko) J Krpan, 70, of Winthrop Harbor passed peacefully on May 1, 2026 comforted by the love of his family and significant other. Born in the small village Sveti Rok, Croatia during Tito’s socialist reign on August 12th 1955, Mark’s early years were shaped by farming the fields with his family. Then at age 11, in 1966 Mark immigrated with his family to Zion, IL. After graduating from North Chicago High School, Mark attended CLC and received a welding certificate. He retired from Abbott Laboratories in 2010 after 30 years of service. Mark easily made friends and kept lifelong friendships, touching everyone with his kindness and generosity.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Krpan, brother Loui Krpan, and his first wife Patricia (nee Neimi) Krpan.
He leaves behind his brother John (Liz) Krpan, sister Mary (Don) Daisy, significant other Alicia McCoy, beloved nieces and nephews Chris (Cassie) Daisy, Tim (Emma) Daisy, Jill Daisy, Joe (Malia) Krpan, Jason Krpan, Jennifer (Eddie) Spelic, Brian Krpan, Dianne Krpan, Gabriel Krpan, Alicia’s daughters; Rita (Ryan) Jelinek, Aurora (PJ) Wise, many great nieces and great nephews, and many more relatives in the US, Canada, and Croatia.
Mark led an active life having traveled to every one of the 50 states and hiking every US National Park. He loved all rock and roll and attended many concerts throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman boating and canoeing throughout the United States on lakes and rivers. Mark enjoyed hanging out and having parties with his many lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held at Congdon Friday May 8th, from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held Saturday May 9, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home followed by interment at Ascension Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zion Benton Moose Lodge or Winthrop Harbor Fire Association.
