Maria Patricia Diamantopoulos

Maria Patricia Diamantopoulos passed away at home on October 7, 2026, at the age of 83. She was born on December 19, 1942, in Milwaukee, WI.

Maria will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother whose life was centered on her faith, her family, and the relationships she cherished.

Maria retired from Medline and previously worked at Fansteel in North Chicago, Illinois. She married Demetrios Diamantopoulos at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Waukegan, Illinois. In her faith journey, she was a member of Trinity Christian Center in Zion, Illinois, and was a committed, born-again believer in Jesus Christ. Her faith was a steady and important part of her life, and she found comfort and joy in Christian music and in studying God’s Word. She was devoted to her family and friends and took pleasure in the simple things that brought her happiness. Maria loved watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, along with movies, game shows, and wrestling on television. She also enjoyed using her iPad to play games and to keep in touch with the people she loved. These everyday interests reflected her warm spirit and the ways she stayed connected with others.

Maria is survived by her sons, Apostolos Diamantopoulos and John (Karen) Diamantopoulos; grandson, Dimitri Kalaitzis (son of Apostolos Diamantopoulos); half-brother, Gary Bavuso and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Bavuso; her mother, Bernice Bavuso; her brothers, Carl Bavuso and Edward Bavuso; her sister, Sandra Johnson; and her ex-husband, Demetrios Diamantopoulos.

A funeral service will be held on October 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, Illinois 60099. Interment will be private for immediate family.
