Lucille Childs

Lucille Beryl Childs, 92, formerly of Zion, IL passed away surrounded by her loved ones on October 26, 2026 in Libertyville, IL.

Lucille was born in Zion, IL the daughter of Andrew Lloyd and Cynthia Beryl (Lyons) Holcombe. She attended Zion schools, Christian Fellowship Center in Zion, First Baptist Church, and Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Fulton, MS. She worked as a final inspector at Payson Casters Inc. for seven years and at Fansteel for ten years. She married E.T Childs in Mississippi in 1995. Lucille had a green thumb, she maintained vegetable gardens and loved planting zinnias, roses, and hydrangeas. She loved canning her fruits and vegetables and being outdoors.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Patrick) Short; grandchildren, Christopher Short and Trae Short; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Fischer, Clay, and Lindsey; numerous great-great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Lyons; many nieces and nephews; and special nieces, Tina and Daphne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.T. Childs; granddaughter, Darcy Jean Wilson; parents, Andrew and Cynthia Holcombe; brothers, James William Holcombe and Lloyd P. Holcombe; sisters, Dolly Lewallen, Jean Marie Copen, Virginia Grubbs, Ruth Moore and Alice Elizabeth Holcombe.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
