Laurie Mercure

Laurie Mercure, 78, of Beach Park, IL, passed away February 23, 2026 in Waukegan, IL. Laurie was born February 28, 1947 in Oshkosh, WI.

Laurie was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and earned her associate degree from Moser Secretarial School. She married Michael Mercure August 27, 1966, at St. Anastasia Church in Waukegan, IL. Laurie worked at Our Lady of Humility Church for over 32 years and A-B-T Tax Service for 43 years, which she and Mike own. She was a member of St. Brigid Parish, Our Lady of Humility Church, Beach Park, IL. Laurie was the head of the Bereavement Committee at OLH, planning and coordinating funeral luncheons. She was also involved in many other committees and endeavors, wherever she could.

Laurie was a selfless woman who put her family and God above all else. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, trivia, reading and travelling (she has been to 112 countries and all 7 continents). Her proudest joys were her family. One of the most enduring things of her life was the welcoming and beauty that she instilled in everyone she encountered.

She is survived by her husband, Deacon Michael “Mike” Mercure; children, John (Michelle) Mercure, Jeffery (Karen) Mercure and Jason (Moira) Mercure; grandchildren, Kierra (Paul) McNamara, Aimee (Walter) Feber, Jordan Mercure, Matthew Mercure, Benjamin Mercure, Katie Mercure, Thomas Mercure, William Mercure and Elizabeth Mercure; great-grandchild, Theodore John Feber; her father, Jerome G. Merkel; goddaughters, Tiffany (Tom) Miller and Stacy Surkamp; nephew, Jason (Liza) Merkel and numerous cousins and their children.

Laurie is preceded in death by her mothers, Valeria Genal Merkel and Virginia Simonis Merkel; brother, Jerome G. “Jerry” Merkel and cousins, Debby Bowman and Dale Merkel.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 10:30 am at St Brigid Parish - Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
