Larry Lewis, 72, of Winthrop Harbor, went home to be with his Lord on January 24, 2026.
Larry was born on December 4, 1953, in Pineville, Kentucky, to Melvin and Arizona Lewis. On November 17, 1973, he married the love of his life and best friend, Debrah Strawbridge. They were married at First Baptist Church in Zion, Illinois. Together, they raised three wonderful children.
Larry was a loving husband, and a wonderful dad. He was all about his family and keeping them in church. A devout Christian, Larry loved sharing his faith in Jesus and spreading God's word to everyone he met. He was also a devoted Elder at New Season Community Church in Zion. In addition to his spiritual service, Larry had a passion for gardening, particularly in growing flowers throughout his yard that stood as a testament to his nurturing spirit. He found pleasure and peace spending time with his family. His enjoyment of simple pleasures was evident in his love for playing games with his family, especially the lively rounds of Skip-Bo that brought everyone together. He loved fishing and spending time outdoors. Larry's personality, and his faith in God, drew people to him; he had an innate ability to make others smile. He brought so much joy and laughter to everyone. He loved tormenting his wife making her watch Western movies all the time. His favorite song that he always sang to his children was Rank Stranger. Larry will be leaving behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished forever.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debrah; children, Brittani (Sean) McCafferty, Brandi (Bryant) Hargroue, Larry Brent (Jennifer) Lewis; grandchildren, Amber (Tyler) Moore, Dustin Lewis, Tylan (Cassie) Sosnin, Halei (Austin) Causey, Larry Austin (Christian) Lewis, Aron (Anniya) Lewis, Brooklyn McCafferty, Kylie Hargroue, Blake McCafferty, Kyle Borg, and Sean (Donna) Borg; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn (Merle) Bridges, Joanne Osborne, and Janice (Jim) Rushing.
