John C. Taylor, Jr. was born to John, Sr. and Eugenia P. Taylor on October 28, 1952. John transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly home on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago, Il. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He attended the Mt. Sinai M.B. Church of North Chicago, Il and Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Zion, Il. He was joined in holy matrimony to Margie L. Sanders in 1974, and to this union three children were born: Renee, Tiany, and John C., III.
John Jr. attended Catholic schools throughout his education, including St. Anastasia in Waukegan, Il and Carmel High School in Mundelein, Il. He completed his secondary education at Fort Steilacoom Community College in Tacoma, Washington.
John Jr. was drafted by the United States Army in January 1971. His active-duty service time included a tour of duty in Vietnam, concluding in 1973. He then served in the Army National Guard from 1973 to 1977, completing his military service.
John Jr. began his career with Commonwealth Edison (Exelon Corporation) as a Meter Reader in November 1973 and ended as a Maintenance Supervisor at Zion’s Z-22 Nuclear Power Plant in November 2000. He continued as a Nuclear Consultant through Newberg-Perini and Stone & Webster Construction Inc., traveling between power plants including Braidwood, Clinton, Byron, and Quad Cities Nuclear Stations in Illinois, Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant in Decatur, Alabama, and with PG&E (Pacic Gas and Electric Company) during the power outages and energy crisis that occurred in California in 2003 and 2004.
After his retirement, he continued doing the construction and maintenance work he loved, through RHMG Enterprise, LLC, and Green Bay Manor Apartments – c/o Andrus RE Group.
John Jr. served as a coach in the Zion Benton Youth Football Program for several years where the emphasis was not only on the game fundamental but also on teaching the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship to athletes in our community.
John Jr. leaves to cherish his memory with love and laughter, his wife of 51 years, Margie L. (nee Sanders) Taylor, his precious daughter Tiffany D. (Rev Lavan) Taylor-Pipes, his number one and only son, John C. Taylor, III (partner Maisha Whittington, all of Zion, Il, son-in law Rev. Claude L. White, Jr., adopted daughter Latoya Hudson-Spells; beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Isabella, Fyodore, Christiaan, Gloria, and Bishop Pipes; John C., IV and Jasmine Taylor, Asmarina and Blake White; three brothers Jeremiah Taylor, Riverside, CA, Robert L. Taylor, Zion, Il, James (Jennifer) Taylor, Ingleside, II, four sisters, Florence (Richard) Burnett of Zion, Il, Deborah (Lorenso) Jones, Riverside, CA, Phyllis (Harlan) Showden of Zion, Il, and Kay Kimbrough of Kenosha, Wi; in-laws; William and Melva Holmes, Anthony and Patricia Quinn, Ernest, Sr. and Hester Abbott, Warren, Jr. and Rose Peters, and Gail Sanders; godchildren Tuwanda Peters, Chloe Simpson, David and Huett Turney, Bryce A. Smith, Dimitri and Justice Cain, Rev. Kevin and April Mae McCoy, Xavier Curry, and Sophia Spells; special cousins Rev. Rev. Robert “Bobby” Richards, Waukegan, Il, Anita Alexander, Arden Hills, MN, and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends.
John Jr. was preceded in death by his first Princess, Renee M. White, his parents John C., Sr. and Eugenia P. Taylor, brother David L. Taylor, sister Georgenia A. Turney, mother-in-law Margaret Pickett, father-in-law Aubrey Sanders, brother-in-law Danny R. Sanders, and godson Paul Lesure.
A Homegoing Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2500 West 30 th Street, Zion, IL 60099. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the John and Margie Taylor Family Trust.
