Joanne Dean Wehrly, 73, Cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend has passed Aug 20, 2025, due to Ovarian Cancer. She was a proud Chicagoan who was born March 11, 1952
Joanne Dean Wehrly, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength. She was the devoted wife of Robert, loving mother to her son Bill and wife Jennifer Dean, and proud grandmother to Madilyn and Quinn Dean—each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ann and Frank Powrozek of Chicago and is also survived by her brothers, John Powrozek (and wife Liz) and Steve Powrozek (and wife Joanne), and many nieces.
Joanne was a smart, strong, and spirited woman who embraced life with open arms. Her quick wit could light up a room, and her infectious smile made everyone feel welcome. Whether a childhood friend, neighbor, work colleague, train buddy or part of the pickleball crew, she was admired for her resilience and deeply cherished by those who experienced her love.
A firm believer in the power of a clean house, meticulous lawn and a well-timed joke, Joanne brought both order and joy to those around her. She was an avid traveler, always eager to explore new places and meet new people. More recently, she took up pickleball—not the most skilled on the court, perhaps, but certainly the most fun. Her laughter echoed across the court, reminding everyone that joy was the real victory.
Joanne’s life was a testament to grace, humor, grit and the deep bonds of family. She is survived by her beloved family, who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. Her absence will be felt profoundly, but her spirit will live on in the stories, smiles, and numerous traditions she leaves behind. (eg., anise cookies, cracked ice, tuna casserole, mummy dogs)
A memorial service will be shared once it is finalized.
