Jay Swank, 72, of Wadsworth, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home on August 25, 2026.
Jay was born on June 9, 1954, to Ralph and Mildred (Ott) Swank in Waukegan, Illinois. He graduated from Waukegan High School. He married Betty Hamlet on August 30, 1980, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waukegan, Illinois. Shortly after high school, Jay started working at ComEd, working his way up to supervisor, where he retired after 40 years. Jay enjoyed golfing at Bonnie Brook Golf course and visiting northern Wisconsin to fish. He was a member of the Sundowners Bowling League and an active participant in the City Club of Waukegan. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas and the casinos, playing Sudoku, and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Most of all, Jay loved spending time with his family and swimming with his grandkids.
Jay is survived by his loving wife, Betty Swank; children, Stephen (Michelle), Shannon, Alex, and Aaron; grandchildren, Gavin and Kaiden; brothers, Bryan (Mary), Darryl (Kim), Stuart (Annette); and sisters, Sue (Mark) Pecher and Marianne Buehler; many nieces and nephews; and Uncle Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Rodrick, Ralph, and Wayne.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at, Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Parish-Church of St. Patrick, 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd, Wadsworth, IL. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
