Janice Grider

Janice Lou Grider, 77, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, finished her work here on earth and returned home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 20, 2026. 

Janice was a light in this world. She was selfless, loving, strong, and the perfect mixture of sass and class. To know Janice was to know love and warmth. She never missed a special or important moment in her family’s life, or an opportunity to tell us how much she loved us. 

The scent of her lipstick and Clinique Happy, along with the quiet but unmistakable confidence with which she carried herself, will forever be engraved in the memories of those who loved her. 

Janice had a heart for service and a genuine love for others. That was evident to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She spent much of her life caring for others through her long and dedicated career as a nurse. Nursing was more than a profession for Janice; it was an expression of who she was. She brought compassion, strength, patience, and kindness to those in her care and found purpose in helping people through some of their most vulnerable moments. Her heart for serving others extended far beyond her career and touched her family, friends, church, and countless people whose lives she encountered. 

Her love for Jesus was at the center of her life and sprang from her naturally, just as did the warmth and affection she showed to others—especially those in need. 

Janice was married to Willie Grider. She is survived by her two children, son Rod (Amy) Grandy and daughter Adriana Grider, and stepdaughter Niecey Grider. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Chris, CJ, Amaya, and Alana; her brother Lewis (Mary) Chalker; and sister-in-law Margarete (Chalker) Wanley. She leaves behind many dear and close friends who were a source of great joy, love, and purpose throughout her life. She will also be deeply missed by the many friends and colleagues she made throughout her years of nursing and service to others. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Norma (Wilson) Chalker, and two siblings, sister Kathy Kolakowski and brother Steve Chalker. 

Janice was an enthusiastic member of The Pointe Church and loved both its mission and the people who are part of it. Her faith, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for others will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Janice finished her work here, but the love she gave so freely will continue through the lives she touched. She will be missed beyond words and remembered with tremendous love. 

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 24, 2026, at The Pointe Church in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois.
