Georgene Dorothy Knight, 76, of Zion, Illinois, passed away on September 21, 2025 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Georgene was born January 11, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois to Russell and Dorothy Broomhead. Georgene was a member of Christ Community Church in Zion, she worked for Six Flags Great America and as a dog trainer for the Zion Park District. She also spent time volunteering for Cancer Treatment Centers of America where she crocheted hundreds of hats and blankets for the patients. She also volunteered for Abiding Love Food Pantry.Georgene's family consists of her many friends in the dog world, most people know Georgene as the UKC Judge, the agility and obedience trainer or the dog exhibitor. In earlier days Georgene had a basenji, a Lhasa Apso, cats and at least one horse. Turn to the 1980's and she formally trained her first competition dog, a St Bernard named Bogie (with a long O like Humphrey Bogart), she trained and was a member of the Kenosha Kennel Club. She won a significant award at the St Bernard specialty and became hooked on obedience. To add to her dog world her first border collie named Beam joined her family from the well-known Bonnie Zich who introduced her to a world of agility and sheep herding, continuing her training of her own dogs at Kenosha Kennel Club and becoming Director of Training. Over the years Georgene competed with her border collies in agility, venues such as AKC, UKI, CPE, NADAC, USDAA, she also competed in AKC obedience and rally. Georgene finished off her dog resume with a Dog Trainer position at the Zion Park District, as an agility and obedience instructor. To this day Georgene has trained many puppies and dogs to be well behaved citizens, no dog could ever walk casually by Georgene, she always found a way to blend dog training in every day life.
She is survived by her close friend, Earl Dillow; brother, Ralph Broomhead; sister, Darlene (Bill) Phillips; and many nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Scott Knight. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 o’clock noon at the funeral home. Since Georgene loved all dogs please consider a donation to a rescue of your choice in lieu of flowers.
