Edwin Howes Jr.

April 3, 1938 — October 18, 2025

Charlie was born at home in Mancelona, Michigan to Edwin Sr. and Mary Edith Howes on April 3, 1938 and passed away October 18, 2025 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL at the age of 87.

He lived in the Midwest until the age of seven when his family moved to California where he finished growing up. After graduating from Torrance High School, he attended BIOLA College (now University) and then entered the Navy. He earned the rank of FTM1 working on radar pinpointing enemy planes during the Viet Nam War. After serving a little over seven years, he moved to Waukegan, took a few college courses and starting working at the Navy Exchange as a photographer in addition to working for Finley Photography of Winthrop Harbor, IL.

Charlie met and married Janice Peterson on September 1,1973 and together they had two children: Heather Howes Frisinger (Micah) and Christopher along with three grandchildren: Olivia, Elena and Luke Frisinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mary Edith, and his brother, Paul; and is survived by his sister, Nancy Spahr; brother-in-law, James Spahr; and nephew, Tim Spahr (Ginny); sister-in-law, Judy Stanley; nephew, Scott Stanley; and nieces, Jill Bovoso (Vince) and JoAnn Pollock (Andrew) in addition to several nieces and nephews.

Charlie was a devoted family man and man of God serving his church as a teacher, club leader, usher, deacon and elder as well as on several search committees for a pastor, writing a new church constitution and other projects.

He was blessed to have many friends in HeatherRidge, a Gurnee Mills walking group, S.A.M. Bible Study group that met for breakfast once a week and his James McKinstry Chapter of plastic modelers in Chicago.

A memorial service will be held at the Immanuel Church, 2300 Dilleys Rd., Gurnee on Friday, October 31, 2025 with visitation at 10:30 a.m. and the service at 11:00. Burial will be private at Northshore Garden of Memories.
