Edward A. Butkus

September 10, 1958 — August 31, 2026

Edward A. Butkus, 67, of Winthrop Harbor, died suddenly at home on August 31, 2026. Just ten days shy of his 68th birthday, he was born September 10, 1958 in Waukegan.

He graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School, class of 1976. Eddie loved horses and enjoyed raising and riding Sunny, Ebol, and Tex. He was a talented artist and with acrylic paints created beautiful nature scenes on beach rocks. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed books on Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, and the historic ship, the Edmund Fitzgerald. He cared for a family of wild turkeys every winter. Harvesting a variety of peppers from his table top garden gave him much pleasure. Tabasco was his favorite condiment and he sprinkled it on nearly everything he ate! In his retirement years, Adoration, weekday Masses, and trips to Marytown brought him a lot of peace and comfort.

Ed is survived by his brother, Frank; sister, Linda; and a dear friend Sue.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Emily Butkus.
