Dorothy Ostrander

Dorothy Marie Ostrander, 93, of Rougemont, NC, formerly of Zion, IL, passed away on February 21, 2026, in Rougemont, NC, surrounded by loved ones.

Dorothy was born on January 10, 1933, in Marion County, West Virginia. She married Eugene Ostrander Sr. on July 31, 1954. She received a ministerial license from Marilyn Hickey’s Bible College and a degree in family counseling. Dorothy was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Zion, IL, and worked as a saleswoman, certified nurse's aid, and caregiver. Dorothy served in the Navy from 1952 to 1954. She also served as a hostess, counselor, and president of Waukegan Aglow from 1981 to 1984.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurette Cressel Hesselink; grandchildren, Michael Martin, Jeremy Hesselink, Nathaniel Hesselink, and Cressell Spoo; and eight great-grandchildren. And one great-great-grandchild.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ostrander Sr.; son, Eugene Ostrander Jr.; daughter, Karen Spoo (née Ostrander); mother, Grace Louise Cressel Brandt Askey, and nephew, Arthur Hoyt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
