Dorothy Ada Gibson

January 17, 1924 — April 12, 2026

Dorothy Ada Gibson (Timmons) age 102, passed away peacefully in her home in Park City, IL surrounded by loved ones. Dorothy was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 17th , 1924. She was the eldest of her two sisters (Inez and Anna) where they lived a modest life growing up during the Great Depression. Dorothy graduated high school in 1942 and started her first job working at an eyeglass store where she met her future mother-in-law, Lenore. She was soon introduced to Lenore’s son Herbert who was just coming home from serving in WWII. They married in 1945 and had 3 beautiful daughters (Diana, Bonnie, & Nancy). The family moved to Waukegan, IL where Dorothy started her career in retail at Montgomery Wards, The Globe, and she retired from Carson Pirie Scott in 1991. Shopping became a tradition with her three daughters along with family trips to her home state of Columbus, Ohio. Dorothy was very involved in the church throughout her life and attended the First Congregational Church in Waukegan where she became a Sunday School teacher.

Dorothy was also instrumental in helping Herb manage his construction business (Gibson Construction). The family moved all over Lake County where he built many homes and apartment buildings with Dorothy by his side inspiring him with her creative talents.

She enjoyed scrapbooking family photos, Elderhostel trips, going to restaurants, listening to music, and her yearly winter trips to Florida. She loved being with family and her famous saying to us when we left was “Now hurry back”.

Dorothy is survived by her 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren (Janice, Jenny, Joleen, Melissa, Matthew, and Rachel), and 10 grandchildren (Jordan, Leigha, Adrian, Priscilla, Angelo, Isabel, AJ, Sadie, Alyssa, and Bella) and was lovingly called ‘Aunt Dorothy’ to many nieces and nephews.

Many blessings to all the family and friends who brought her so much joy by being in her life during her 102 beautiful years on earth.
