Dave Keiler

David Keiler of Beach Park IL, age 75, died on August 1, 2021 in Kenosha. He was born July 25, 1946 in Pekin, IL to Albert John Keiler and Lois (Hoehn) Keiler. He was the oldest of three children. Dave graduated from Willowbrook High School, went to Indiana University and received his BS in History and Physical Education. He later went to Keller School of Management and got his MBA. In his early years Dave enjoyed playing baseball with his brothers from dawn until dusk. Always athletic, he went on to excel in gymnastics which led to a full athletic scholarship at Indiana University. During his time at IU his cheer team went to the Rose Bowl. Dave loved sharing stories about his past accomplishments. He married April 15, 1972 Jan Tollefsen in Zion and together had three children Cari, Lori and Jeff. He served in the Army for 2 years right after getting married and lived in Kansas. They then settled in Beach Park IL where Dave taught Drivers Ed and coached gymnastics at Waukegan High school for 35 years. In retirement he worked at Midwest Airlines as a luggage handler. Dave enjoyed playing golf and was active in Christ Community Church. He served as an Elder, Usher, actor in Zion Passion Play and served on global Mission trips with his wife. In his retirement Dave and Jan went on several trips abroad. He enjoyed cheering on his 4 grandchildren in activities. While he had health struggles in later years, he loved hosting friends and family gatherings at the house. Dave passed with his family at his side into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior. He is survived by his wife, Jan Keiler; children, Cari Avila, Lori (Robert) Dees, and Jeffrey Keiler; grandchildren, Ryan Dees, Reagan Dees, Christopher Avila, and Madison Avila; and brothers, Jim (Ellie) Keiler, and Ken (Linda) Keiler. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Keiler; father, John Keiler, and his son-in-law, Chris Avila. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Camp Zion or Christ Community Church Missions.
