Caroline Armstrong, of Winthrop Harbor, IL surrounded by her family, went to her Heavenly home on June 18, 2025, just three days shy of her 88th birthday.
She was born in Waukegan, IL on June 21st, 1937 and grew up in Zion, IL until she married and moved to Winthrop Harbor. She was a nurturer at heart and spent part of her working life as a nurse’s aide for the Zion Hospital. In fact, that is where she met her loving husband, Jim, when he was in there for a knee surgery. They married in June of 1963 and were married for 59 years until his passing in September of 2022. Caroline loved to be active in her younger years and enjoyed going for long walks and working in her yard. She was a wonderful mom who always made sure there was a homecooked meal every night no matter what her schedule was. She rode on the back of her husband’s motorcycle with him until she was in her late 70’s. She loved reading and had quite a collection of books. As life slowed, she would enjoy watching movies, especially Westerns. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three children; Rev. Brad (Barb) Williams, Lisa (Steve) Shaw, Jim (Christina) Armstrong; six grandchildren, Melissa (TJ) Poisl, Steven (Laine) Shaw, Kristi Shaw, Alyssa (Joe) Bernhardt, Sarah Armstrong, Ashleigh Armstrong; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Micah, Malachi, Lucas and Evelyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Armstrong, her parents Peter & Tilda Sanchez, all of her siblings, and a great grandson, Levi Bernhardt.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be given to Samaritans Purse.
There will be a private celebration of her life held on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:00 a.m., followed by a burial service held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Zion.
