Bruce Fulkerson

Bruce Michael Fulkerson, age 82, of Zion, Illinois passed to life everlasting with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with family at his side on Sunday afternoon July 13, 2025. He was born April 8, 1943, in Waukegan, Illinois to Charles E. and June G. Fulkerson.

Bruce developed a talent for drafting in high school and spent most of his career at Dynapar/Danaher Controls in Gurnee, Illinois as a Draftsman/Drafting Supervisor where he made the transition from pencil and paper to electronic computer aided drafting. He officially retired from Danaher in December 2005 after 42 years.

On May 16, 1964, Bruce married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sherril Lynne Gantar (“Sher”), whom he first laid eyes on two seats over in high school homeroom. The rest was history.

Bruce and his family joined Lakeview Church in Zion in the early 1970’s, becoming very active in the church. He was involved in the Awana youth program and ran the sound board over four decades, faithfully doing so each Sunday. He enjoyed golfing and did so in the church league for many years. He loved family gatherings and never passed up an opportunity for a hug from the people in his life; whether it was holidays, picnics, or game nights, it was always an entertaining time when he was there. He developed an interest in Genealogy, following in the footsteps of his father and his sister Judy.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father Charles “Elmer” on March 4, 1984, his mother June on August 23, 2005, sister Judith on April 13, 1989, brother Barry on December 12, 2008, and stillborn infant Lisa Renee in 1969. He is survived by his wife Sherril, son Michael, and daughters Kristine Martinez and Lisa (Larry) Evans; his 4 grandchildren Tyler (Zoe) Evans, Nickolas Evans, Merideth and Ashley Martinez; his sister Susan (Jon) Montgomery; 11 nieces and nephews; and his cherished extended family.

Visitation will be at Congdon Funeral Home in Zion on Wednesday July 30, 2025, from 5:00 – 6:30 pm followed by a memorial service from 6:30 – 7:00 pm, with Pastor Les Martin officiating. Private interment will occur at a future date.
