Bill Standridge

Bill Standridge, 83, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. Born May 2, 1943 in Arkansas, Bill spent most of his childhood and young adult life in California, where he loved all things outdoors, playing sports, and working in the sawmills. He was recruited by Carthage College to play basketball at its original location in Carthage, IL and moved with the college when it relocated to Kenosha, WI, there finishing his degree to become a teacher. He spent 37 years as a teacher for Winthrop Harbor School District #1 where he met the love of his life, a fellow teacher, Connie, and they were married December 18, 1971. Bill had a tremendous impact on thousands of students throughout his career in education, and his former students often recount fond memories of his bear stories and his 8th grade prophecies. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved working alongside Connie in their beautiful yard. Bill was a long-time member of Grace Missionary Church in Zion.

Family was the most cherished gift to Bill. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Connie (Reisner) Standridge of Winthrop Harbor, IL, his sons Mike (Donna) McDowell of Zion, IL and Mark (Ruth) McDowell of Manila, Philippines, his daughter Michelle Standridge (Wayne Mitchell II) of Lindenhurst, IL, his grandchildren Dan McDowell, Jen (George) DeLuca, Dave (Emilie) McDowell, Rainbow (Chris) Garner, and Gloria McDowell, as well as great-grandchildren Zaiah, Arlie, George, Julia, Evie, Zeph, Aramis, and Malachi. He is also survived by his dear sister, Betty Holcomb and nieces Annette Wilson, Diana Keith, and Lisa Venturino.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents Jimmy & Ella Miller, his parents Willie and Wada Standridge, and his brother-in-law Gerald Holcomb.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and unwavering devotion to all those he held dear.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Zion would be appreciated.
