Andras (Andy) Joseph Nogradi, 91, of Zion, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Allure of Zion. Andy was born on December 26, 1933, in Hungary to Mihaly and Veron (nee Szklenar) Nogradi.
Andy escaped from Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and arrived at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey on December 29, 1956. After spending a few years in Muskegon, Michigan, he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he met and married Patricia Hoenecke on October 19, 1963. He was a man of few words, but he was a very kind man whose family meant everything to him.
Survivors include his children, Terese (David) Eklund, Nancy (Richard) McFarland, and Mike (Stacy) Nogradi; grandchildren, Kristie (Jeff) Myers, Sheena Ashmore, Ashley McFarland, Layla Nogradi, Lisa and Carolyn Nogradi; great grandchildren, Locke and Bryn Myers and Cheyenne Nogradi.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Patricia Nogradi; his daughter Desiree Nogradi; his parents, Mihaly and Veron Nogradi, and several siblings who had remained in Hungary.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to Allure of Zion and St. Croix Hospice for the care they provided over the last year.
The family will have a private interment.
