Richard Lester "Dick" Baker, 80, of Winthrop Harbor, died on Thursday, November 5 , 2009, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Dick was born June 7, 1929, in Waukegan and was a member of Christ Community Church, Zion. He married Nancy Hughes on April 18, 1953, in Waukegan. Dick retired from the former Parkway Restaurant in Waukegan after 35 years employment as a chef. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He absolutely loved the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy; twin sons, Richard L. (Mary Lynn) Baker of Deer River, MN, and Mick Baker of Waukegan, IL; son, Scott (Peggy) Baker of Winthrop Harbor, IL; twin daughters, Denise Cartwright of Gurnee, IL, and Diane (Allen) Layburn of Park City, IL; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Yvonne of Crystal Lake, IL, and Joanne (Dave) Cooper of DeKalb, IL; brother, Roger (Mary Ellen) Baker of Johnsburg, IL; and many nieces , nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Dorothy Baker.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Camp Zion Ministry of the Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion.
