George Dix

George L. Dix, 79, of Zion, died on Saturday, October 24, 2009 peacefully at his home. George was born July 31, 1930 in Waukegan and lived in this area all of his life. He attended Memorial United Methodist Church. George retired in 1987 from Commonwealth Edison, Zion Power Plant, after 40 years of employment with the utility. He was a member of Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667 where he held the honor of Pilgrim Degree, the Lake County Radio Control Club, and the NRA. George served 18 years in the United States Naval Reserve. A sailboat enthusiast, George built 3 boats in his lifetime, the latest one being recognized in Boat Builder magazine. He also built multiple model airplanes. George enjoyed his cabin in Northwest Wisconsin and he was an avid hunter and fisherman, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. His family was his pride and joy. They were always there for him. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Dix; two sons, Robert (Gail) Dix of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Richard (Karen) Dix of Antioch, Illinois; five grandchildren, Heather (Sean) FitzGerald of Boise, Idaho, Kevin (Anna) Dix of East Hampton, Connecticut, Jonathan (Brittany Johnston) Dix of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Scott Eggers, and Michael Eggers, both of Kenosha, Wisconsin; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Brendan FitzGerald of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Dorothy Elk of Kenosha, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Dix; two brothers, Frederick and Robert Dix; one sister, Lee Grams; and his parents, Frederick and Elizabeth Dix. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Pastor Kwadwo Ntim officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Thursday, October 29, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial donations to the Church or Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667 have been suggested.
