Obituary of Paul V. Richardson

Paul Vernon Richardson, 88, of Zion, went to be with his Lord Jesus on Friday, October 2nd, 2015 at The Grove at the Lake in Zion, Illinois. Paul was born on November 24, 1926 in Zion and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific. Paul re-enlisted in the Army Reserves and served 3 years in the Illinois National Guard. He married his late wife Phyllis Rae La Jeunesse on September 10, 1949 at the First Congregational Church in Kenosha. Paul was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion. Paul owned Richardson’s Service Station in Zion, and worked for the Illinois Beach State Park Department of Conservation before retiring. Paul and Phyllis retired to Chandler, AZ for a few years before returning to Zion. Paul was a member of numerous associations including the Zion Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Zion’s Businessmen's Association, Moose Lodge, Zion Park District’s Seniors Walking Group, VFW, American Legion, square dancing groups T.N.T. and the Silver Dollar Square Dance Club, as well as several unions. Paul enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, motor sports, working on autos, square dancing, telling stories and as a young man roller skating, where he first met Phyllis. Survivors include his children Kathleen Champine of Zion, Terry (Spring) Richardson of Durango CO, Suzanne Ower of Grayslake, IL, Joyce (Michael) Kimball of Sawpit, CO, Janet (Les) Moore of Columbia, TN, Carol (Lee) Jackson of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Elizabeth and Greg Richardson, Emily (Dave) Adams, Joseph (Carolyn) Ower, Daniel (Valerie) Ower, Rebecca (Johnathan) Speegle, Peter Ower, Andi (Steven) Wald, Michael (Krista) Kimball II, Michael (Shelby) Fernandez, Kai and Jenevieve Jackson; eleven great-grandchildren; brother Raymond (Judith) Richardson of Beach Park; son-in-law Dwight Ower of Beach Park; brother-in-law Wayne Brach of Mukwonago, WI; nieces Sheila and Jana; and nephew Kent. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis; son Gene; sister Rosemary; and parents Vernon and Esther Richardson. A funeral service will be held on Thursday October 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Viewing and visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Alzheimer Association or JourneyCare Hospice.
