Obituary of Robert Metten

Robert Metten, 89, of Zion, IL, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Robert was born August 28, 1926 in Kenosha, WI. He was employed by the Zion Elementary School District for over 20 years where he was known as “Mr. Bob”. He was the sexton of St. Johns United Church of Christ for many years, then was a member of York House United Methodist Church in Beach Park. Robert was a past member of the Zion Moose Lodge, and the Zion Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Metten (nee Whiteside); 3 daughters Shara Duty of Zion, Chantal Pontillo-Unanski of Gilbert, AZ, and Terry Kromm (nee Metten) of Kenosha; 4 grandchildren Anthony Duty, Arin Duty, Zachary Pontillo, and Grace Ann Pontillo; 2 great-grandchildren Janai Ray-Duty, and Jayse Pontillo-Ahrndt; and a sister Delores Pyle of Baxter, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Adele Metten; and a brother Donald Metten. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at York House United Methodist Church, 37768 N. Greenbay Rd., Beach Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the church would be appreciated.
