Obituary of William Allen Stockton Sr.

William Allen “Scoop” Stockton Sr., 86, of Zion, IL passed peacefully in his sleep on August 6, 2015. He was born May 26, 1929 in Benton, IL and graduated from Benton Consolidated High School in 1946. He married Jean on June 16, 1951. He worked and retired from the City of Zion. William served with the United States Army 11th Airborne Division and was a paratrooper. He was a disabled veteran who was active with the DAV, AMVETS, and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Zion Benton Moose Lodge. William was a loving father of 9 children and was a sports enthusiast. He never missed a little league game with all 7 boys since 1966. He was so proud that all of his boys played football for Zion Benton. William is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean; children, William Jr., James (Bonnie), Tommy, John (Jamie); Mary Beth Prusha, Susan (Johnnie) Gonzales, and Eric (Toni); 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 2 sons, Steven and Joseph Stockton; and his parents, Pearl and Allen. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 9:00 until 12:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL. Memorial donations to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 16, 18400 Belvidere Rd. #205, Grayslake, IL 60030, would be appreciated. A reception, anytime after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, will be held at Alamo Pizzeria, 38170 N. Sheridan Rd., Beach Park, IL.
