Obituary of James Niemier

James “JD” Niemier, 53, of Zion, IL died January 15, 2015 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, IL. James was born July 8, 1961 in South Bend IN and graduated from Washington High School. He served with the United States Navy and retired after 22 ½ years. While serving with the Navy, he was stationed at Great Lakes in North Chicago as a recruit training commander. Prior to working at Great Lakes, James was stationed at PMRF Barking Sands, HI for 3 years, HSL 37 Barbers Point HI for another 3 years, and among many other locations, USS Midway for 2 ½ years. James was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm). Throughout his military career, he received many medals such as, armed forces expeditionary medal, good conduct medal, Kuwait liberation medal, and many more. He was a member of the Punishers LEMC Illinois North and held the position of Master Sgt. at Arms. He is survived by his wife, Jan Eileen (nee McArthur); children, Alaina Lyndsey (Fiancé Greg Guerrier) Niemier, Adam James (Jasmine) Niemier, and Ashley Layne (Mike) Walters; sister Karen Gooding; and many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, Frank J. And Bonnie M. Niemier. “Fair Winds and Following Seas.” Visitation will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
